On 20 January 2022, A.L. van Zijl will defend her PhD dissertation, entitled: ‘The Subtle Art of Being Different While Working Together: An empirical study of teams in the context of the Dutch social welfare reform’.

This thesis focusses on the Dutch primary care teams that have formed the basis of the local social welfare system since 2015. Prior to the introduction of these primary care teams, the Dutch government formulated expectations about how the teams should be structured to improve collaboration between professionals. The central question in this dissertation is to what extent these policy assumptions regarding the teamwork in Dutch primary care teams are realized in practice. By answering this question this thesis contributes to the understanding and management of the teams, which have been a topic of discussion since their introduction.

The PhD defences will not take place publicly in the usual way. A live stream link has been provided to candidate. The ceremony will begin exactly at 13:00.
