Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:
In this thesis we studied the optimal treatment of bronchiectasis disease patients especially those who are infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and investigated quantitative imaging analysis techniques and their clinical applicability in bronchiectasis patients.
The future of patient care for bronchiectasis patients will be dominated by more personalized treatment options and sensitive and accurate quantification of structural lung disease for diagnosis and disease monitoring.
Driven by the limitations associated with visual assessments of CT scans by radiologist, there has been an surge of interest in computer-based methods for quantifying bronchial abnormalities and other structural lung damage over the past decade. This thesis have demonstrated progress in this area, particularly with the emergence of AI technology, which has the potential to identify clinically important phenotypes without human supervision, including those beyond visual interpretation. Computer-based image analysis can be utilized for phenotyping, disease monitoring, and determine prognosis for certain conditions.
