On 30 November 2021, C. Hu will defend her PhD dissertation, entitled: ‘Scratching the Surface: Risk factors and consequences of childhood eczema phenotypes’.

Childhood eczema is a major common chronic health problem. Due to its variable age of onset and persistence over time, using eczema phenotypes instead of the dichotomous eczema definition is suggested to better reflect the natural course of eczema. Eczema phenotypes may enable better identification of specific genetic, early life environmental and microbial risk factors, and consequences on other atopic diseases and emotional and behavioural problems in later childhood. This could provide new insights for better prevention and treatment strategies focused on early life to reduce the occurrence and burden of childhood eczema.

The public defence will take place at the Prof. Andries Queridoroom, 3rd floor Education Center, Erasmus MC. The ceremony will begin exactly at 10.30 AM. In light of the solemn nature of the ceremony, we recommend that you do not take children under the age of 6 to the first part of the ceremony.
