Lamain argues that discussions of climate security need to be seen as extensions of the debates on climate politics, climate securities and socio-ecological conflicts. She notes that state security and military interests are currently central to discussions on climate security.

She highlights six risks associated with this framing and presents an example in Nepal of an emerging avenue of climate security.
