Summary:

In this thesis, studies on the clinical relevance of the five most common complications in hospitalized patients are reported; sleep assessment and disturbance in the critically ill and delirium in neurosurgical patients. Further, new studies on the effects of music in hospitalized patient populations are presented and finally, the results of an implementation study in a surgical setting where music intervention effectiveness already has a strong evidence base, but was still under-used, is reported.
