Dissertation in short:
This thesis is on real world outcomes of systemic therapy in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). New life prolonging drugs (LPD) were introduced in the Netherlands from 2004 to 2014: docetaxel, cabazitaxel, abiraterone, enzalutamide and radium-223. In the CAPRI registry over 3,600 mCRPC patients were included in 20 Dutch hospitals from 2010 to 2018, with a focus on systemic treatment and outcomes. In the PRO-CAPRI study, health-related quality of life was analyzed as well.
Based on the observational CAPRI data, this thesis focusses on:
1) differences in patient populations in clinical trials and standard care
2) real world outcomes of mCRPC patients in the study period (survival, quality of life, end of life care)
3) outcomes of treatment sequences and the use of real world data in prediction models.
This observational study adds to the knowledge from clinical trials in mCRPC patients and adds to efficient use of expensive new treatment.
