Summary:
The overall aim of this dissertation is to investigate the development of a clinical anatomical
education program for students and its correlation to new teaching models and the transition
to safe surgical procedures.
Studies were conducted to:
- determine the feasibility of an extra-curricular peer student anatomy-teaching program
- study the flexibility of the wrist as a valid method for testing a newly developed embalming method for training inf surgical-related procedures on human specimens
- develop a human specimen-based model which is suitable for laparoscopic colorectal surgery training
- provide insight into dissection-based anatomy education and frontal classroom education in relation to anatomical recognition and recollection
- define the length of the neural pedicle after the bifurcation of the thoracodorsal nerve in relation to innervated free partial latissimus dorsi flaps
- investigate whether the humeral head is a better bony landmark than the acromion in relation to preventing axillary nerve damage in proximal fixation of humeral fractures
- provide anatomical evidence in the prevention of fracture treatment-related radial nerve damage in the distal part of the humerus in relation to solid landmarks
