Summary:

In this thesis, several studies describing fibrinogen and the fibrin network are described. The fibrin network is one of the main components of blood clots. The first part of this thesis focusses on on adequate and reliable measurements of fibrinogen and fibrin, while the second part focusses on factors influencing the fibrin network, such as COVID-19 and diabetes. Obtaining more knowledge about the fibrin network contributes to the understanding of the development of thrombosis, and can help in identifying new targets for therapy or improving treatment and/or prevention of thrombosis.
