Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:
In this dissertation, we have focused on novel intraoperative approaches that might assist or
even enhance the (surgical) treatment paradigm for GBM patients. Two of the most prominent
intraoperative approaches we studied included image-guided surgery and photodynamic
therapy with the use of targeted probes. The overall aim of the thesis has been to evaluate these probes in (pre)clinical models and to develop these approaches for eventual clinical application. Although (pre)clinical drug development is a very long and arduous process, we believe that our work in this thesis has laid the foundation required to test one of these probes, FA-ICG, in an upcoming phase I trial for image-guided surgery of GBM.

The public defence will start exactly at 10.30 hrs. The doors will be closed once the public defence starts, latecomers cannot access the hall. Given the solemn nature of the meeting, we advise not to bring children under the age of 6 to the first part of the ceremony.
