Below is a brief summary about the dissertation:
This dissertation discusses new insights, treatment options, and challenges in the treatment of peritoneal malignancies. Part 1 of this dissertation focuses on new insights into the curative treatment of colorectal PM (peritoneal metastases). Part 2 addresses developments in the palliative treatment of peritoneal malignancies.
In the Netherlands, all hospitals performing CRS-HIPEC (Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) are affiliated with the Dutch Peritoneal Oncology Group (DPOG). The goal of DPOG is to improve the treatment of patients with PM, for example, by conducting (multicenter) clinical studies. Furthermore, the treatment of patients in these centers is nearly identical, enabling retrospective analysis of large patient cohorts. The majority of this dissertation is based on the analysis of patients treated at the Erasmus MC Cancer Institute in Rotterdam. Additionally, we collaborated with the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven and conducted studies using data from the Comprehensive Cancer Centre Netherlands (IKNL) to analyze data at the population level as well.
