R.G. Bijman will defend his PhD dissertation on Tuesday 7 February 2023, entitled: ’New Developments and Applications of Automated Treatment Planning in Radiotherapy‘.
Summary:
In this thesis I have performed research into new applications and developments of automated treatment planning for radiotherapy. For this I used the in-house developed software for automated radiotherapy treatment planning. I did successfully apply this in order to automate the planning of rectum cancer treatment with an MR-Linac after which I investigated whether the plan quality could be increased using beam angle optimization. I also worked on an application of the software for automation of internal radiotherapy (brachytherapy). Furthermore, I did look into a new application of personalized treatment planning using automated treatment planning. In two other plan comparison studies I did use automated treatment planning in order to compare, bias-free, several treatment planning techniques. Lastly, I did validated a novel commercial application of our in-house developed software against the research version of the software, using a plan comparison study for 4 different treatment sites.
