Summary:
In this thesis, our aim is to investigate the links between various traditional and novel risk factors with the risk of the development and prognosis of atrial fibrillation in the general population, as well as in women and men from the population-based Rotterdam Study. We also want to explore the role of pathways linking risk factors to the development of atrial fibrillation. In particular, we extensively investigate possible sex differences in the relationship between traditional and novel risk factors and the onset and prognosis of atrial fibrillation.
