On average you will spent one third of your life sleeping. At the same time, sleeping habits differ wildly. An early bird might be up before dawn, while a night owl might go to bed at that time. Why is that the case? What does skipping a night of sleep do to your body? And: what even is sleep?
During Sleeping for dummies, somnologist dr. Maartje Louter will tell us all you need to know about your nightly rest. How do you make sure you sleep well? What about sleep disorders such as narcolepsy? And can you counter bad sleep with other healthy habits?
Dr. Maartje Louter is a neurologist, clinical neurophysiologist and somnologist at Erasmus Medical Centre. Next to seeing patients with sleep disorders she is involved in practical research into neurological disorders at the hospital such as EMG, EEG, ultrasounds of neck vessels and nerves, and monitoring of operations, tremor registrations, and sleep studies.
