Cum laude students Erasmus School of Economics put in the spotlight

Student at the First year cum laude award ceremony of 2022
Erasmus School of Economics

On Tuesday 3 May, 55 first-year students from Erasmus School of Economics were congratulated during the school’s annual Bachelor-1 year Cum Laude Ceremony. The students completed their first year of undergraduate studies with a weighted average of 8.25 or higher.

A festive ceremony was held in the theater of the Erasmus Pavilion in the presence of family and friends. The evening was hosted by bachelor's student (econometrics and operational research), Frank de Rooij. After kind words of welcome from Vice Dean and Director of Education Prof. Michel van der Wel, the first 22 cum laude students received a certificate from the hands of Assistant Professors Maria Grith and Evelot Westerink-Duijzer. The programme continued with an inspiring speech by Bram Mesland, a double bachelor BSc² student in Econometrics & Economics and one of the 55 laureates. Subsequently, it was Associate Professor Jan Stoop’s turn to award certificates to the other cum laude students.

As a gift, all Bachelor-1 year cum laude students received the book Jan Tinbergen (1903-1994) and the Rise of Economic Expertise. From 1933 to 1974, Tinbergen was a professor at the Nederlandsche Handels-Hoogeschool and the Nederlandse Economische Hogeschool in Rotterdam, the predecessors of Erasmus School of Economics. The laureates also received a luxury pen from the school associations EFR and FAECTOR. The ceremony concluded with an informal reception.
