New bachelors of Erasmus School of Economics to be presented with diploma during festive ceremony

Feestelijke bachelordiploma-uitreiking voor 445 studenten

On Thursday 10 and Friday 11 November 2016, the latest graduates of Erasmus School of Economics bachelor programme will be presented with their diploma during a festive ceremony in the Aula at Campus Woudestein. This year 445 students will be taking part in Bachelor Graduation Day. On Thursday students of the Dutch programme Economie en Bedrijfseconomie receive their diploma and on Friday students of the programmes Fiscale economie, IBEB, Econometrie, Econometrics en Bsc2 are presented with their diploma.

The festive programme has a number of attractive items besides the diploma presentations themselves. For example, on both days, the attendees will be treated to an inspiring speech by an Erasmus School of Economics alumnus.

On Thursday 10 November, Laura van Geest will be addressing the room. Van Geest (1962) graduated in General Economics and Public Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam. In 2013, she was appointed Director of CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economics Policy Analysis. This research bureau produces economic policy analyses – either at its own initiative or at the request of the national government, parliament, members of the Dutch House of Representatives, trade unions or employers’ federations. CPB works at the intersection of the economic sciences and public policy. In her capacity as CPB Director, Van Geest also serves as a crown-appointed member of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER) and as a member of the Central Economic Commission.

The guest speaker on Friday 11 November will be Coen van Oostrom. Van Oostrom (1970), who studied Business Economics at Erasmus School of Economics, is the founder and CEO of sustainable property developer OVG Real Estate. Van Oostrom bought his first house while still a student, and already owned dozens of properties by the time of his graduation. He has since grown to become one of the figureheads of sustainable development. OVG has earned international accolades with groundbreaking buildings like De Rotterdam and The Edge in Amsterdam. In 2015, Bloomberg Businessweek proclaimed The Edge the smartest building in the world.
