Prof.dr. Anne Margriet Pot, Strategic Advisor Long-Term Care at IGJ, has been appointed Professor of "Supervision of Person-Centred and Integrated Long-Term Care" at ESHPM. Roland Bal says the following about this new chair: “With the arrival of Professor Pot, ESHPM gives a new impulse to research into the supervision of the quality and safety of care. Her focus on person-centred care is a welcome addition that is closely linked to the transition that healthcare is currently undergoing.”

The IGJ strives to better align the supervision of long-term care with the increasing network structure of the health care system better. Additionally, the IGJ wants to give more acknowledgement to the experiences and knowledge of those involved, especially the patients and clients. Moreover, a firm anchoring between science and supervisory practice is essential for the IGJ to be able to continuously improve.

“Our supervision requires innovation,” says Anne Margriet. “The public is gaining more and more say in society, including the care people receive. The social position and legitimacy of regulators are no longer self-evident. Network care raises the question of who is responsible for the quality of that care. Healthcare providers, as well as we, are still insufficiently responding to the needs and preferences of patients and clients. It is essential to listen to their experiences in addition to those of family members and healthcare professionals. All this requires a more flexible form of supervision that stimulates person-centred and integrated care. ”

Anne Margriet brings important expertise to the role of this new chair. From 2007, she was Professor of Elderly Psychology at the VU University in Amsterdam and since 2019 Extraordinary Professor at the North-West University in South Africa. Before joining the IGJ at the end of 2018, she worked for four years as a diplomat and Senior Health Advisor of Long-term Care and Dementia at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, deployed by VWS. Previously, she was Head of the Elderly Program at the Trimbos Institute, and she taught at the Department of Elderly Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Free University. She has also worked as a clinical psychologist at various healthcare organisations. She studied Psychology at the University of Groningen and the Free University.
