Profile
I graduated in 1995 in Public Adminstration, where i majored in Organizational Science. I wrote my master thesis on the development of interorganizational networks in mental Health care. After graduating i started working at the Institute of Health Policy and Management at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. The first four years i spent researching the development of regional networks in health care. After that, i was involved in a multidisciplinaire study on the development of integrated care for Stroke patients. In 2001 i started working on my Ph.D.thesis, which i finished in 2006. Currently i participate in several research projects; both as a researcher and a co-supervisor of several Phd-students.
Next to my research activities i've also been active as an adviseur in different inplementation projects. I've been involved with the implementation of regional health plans in different regions in the Netherlands. I've been part of a national project for the implementation of integrated care for stroke patients. Between 2003 and 2008 i have been part of a national collaborative in Health care called Faster Better, which aims to improve patient safety and logistics in Dutch hospitals. In this program i have been a projectleader and an advisorfor improving patient logistics and i've been active as an adviseur in one of the participating hospitals. Finally i'm also a lecturer at the Institute of Health Policy and Management. I teach courses in strategy, management, organizational science and qualitative research methods.
Fields of interests
My main research interest is in the workings of social networks in health care; be it networks of individuals, units or interorganizational networks. I especially focus on coordination and change in these social networks, using an organizational sociology perspective. How can we stimulate coordination and change within social networks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of healt care provision? This involves studying the relationship between structure, process and outcome of health care delivery. I often use a combination of both qualitative and quantative research methods to study these relationships.
