What was important in making up your mind?
Interesting content of courses, international orientation, university and location, and labor market perspective.

What made you decide to choose for this master?
During the early spring of last year, I had five or six masters in mind I was interested in doing. After I visited a few master open days, I managed to narrow the list down to two masters – both at Erasmus University, and Media and Business was one of them. After my experiences with the other master programme on the list weren’t as positive as I had expected initially, I rightly so (I know now) chose for Media & Business.

How would you describe the connection between IBCoM and your master?
It definitely is a close fit. Even though some lecturers will be new to you, many might be familiar from your years at IBCoM. Moreover, there is a close connection in terms of course content. I would say Media & Business courses build on the more business-focused IBCoM courses. Also, there is a nice mix of theoretical courses and more practical-oriented workshops.

How would you describe your master?
In my opinion the programme is not an easy ride, however if you manage to dedicate sufficient time and attention to your courses and assignments the curriculum for sure is doable. A majority of the classes are taught in a seminar structure focused on participation and class discussion, which helps to learn about material beyond the mere readings. As mentioned, the courses are more focused on the business side of the media industry, yet a relatively broad range of topics is covered during class time. For instance, think about corporate communications, public relations, social media, entrepreneurship, and even some marketing.

In hindsight, what would you have liked to have known before, what you know now?
There a no particular unpleasant surprises that popped up during the last six months in the programme. Let’s hope it keeps being this way.

Any other points you would like to add?
In case it wasn’t pretty obvious already I once more like to state I am satisfied with the choice of Media & Business. Be aware though that a one-year master is limited in time and range, and that most likely you will be writing your master thesis before you even realize it. In the case of Media & Business you will be spending an even larger part of the year on the thesis than in IBCoM year 3, namely 4-5 months. Nonetheless, it has been a worthwhile experience to me, and I am confident it helps me better position myself in the job market after graduation.
