Introduction

The Student Wellbeing Programme has entered a new phase. The latest results from the EUR Student Wellbeing Monitor (2026) confirm that a sense of belonging is the most decisive factor for the wellbeing of EUR students. Existing successful initiatives, such as our accessible meeting place, the Living Room, as well as events and activities, are being further strengthened and developed to contribute to this. However, reaching out to and engaging students remains a significant challenge; less visible student groups, in particular, do not always know how to find what’s on offer.

As Community & Engagement Coordinator, you will play a key role in this. Through the Living Room, you will coordinate a central hub where students can meet, find support and gain inspiration. In addition, you will develop activities and campaigns centred on student wellbeing, gather inspiring stories from the community and translate these into content that informs and motivates. In this way, you will make a direct contribution to an inclusive, engaged and vibrant student environment.

The programme team is a diverse, young team comprising people of different nationalities and backgrounds, where varied perspectives and fresh ideas come together to shape a comprehensive programme. You will report to the Manager of the Student Wellbeing Programme and work closely with the Communications Advisor. You will also coordinate 2.0 FTE of student assistants.

The working language of the team, for communication and joint meetings, is English (C1 level). We also expect a B2 level of Dutch for liaising with students and partners in Rotterdam.

Job description

The Community & Engagement Coordinator ensures that EUR students are aware of and participate in activities, initiatives and support relating to student wellbeing.

You will increase the reach, visibility and engagement of students by coordinating the Living Room, organising activities and events, and developing content based on feedback and needs from the student community. Together with student coordinators, you will help create an environment in which students feel welcome, connected and at home. The role includes, amongst other things:

Living Room Coordination

• Coordinating the day-to-day running of the Living Room and ensuring a welcoming, accessible and pleasant environment for students.
• Co-creating and executing the annual plan, monitoring its implementation and managing the allocated budget.
• Maintaining contact with internal stakeholders regarding the programme, activities and practical organisation.

Community building and engagement

• Being creative in reaching out to, engaging and mobilising different student groups.
• Developing and organising activities, events and campaigns centred on student wellbeing, both within the Living Room and beyond.
• Building and maintaining a strong network with students, societies, staff and partners. 

Student content and storytelling

• Creating inspiring content for online and offline channels that informs, inspires and engages students.
• Gathering stories, experiences and initiatives from the community and brings them to the fore.
• Identifing needs and trends within the student community and advises on the use of communication to effectively reach and engage target groups.
• Supports the communications adviser

Supervising student coordinators (2 fte)    

• Guiding and coaching student assistants and hosts in the implementation of activities
• Encouraging their sense of ownership and initiative

Job requirements

As a Community & Engagement Coordinator, you will bring the following to the role:

• You have a higher vocational education (HBO) level of working and thinking. A degree in communication, hospitality, social work, event management or a similar field is an advantage.
• You have a minimal of 1 year relevant experience, for example within a student organisation, association, community or project environment.
• You have experience in reaching out to, engaging and mobilising students or young adults.
• You have experience in coordinating projects, activities or events.
• You are highly organised, proactive and able to work independently.
• You have experience in communication and content creation for online and offline channels.
• Excellent communication skills in English (C1 level) and Dutch (B2 level)

The start date of this position is November 1st 2026 and you will be based at Academic Affairs in General Management Directorate (ABD). This position is for 0.8 fte - 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.873 to a maximum of € 5.264 gross per month Scale 9 on a fulltime basis (38 hours), in accordance with the CAO-NU. The contract is initially offered for a period of 1 year and and may, subject to demonstrated suitability and continuation in the same position, and provided that (financial and/or organisational) circumstances remain unchanged, be extended until the end of the project, with a maximum total duration of 3 years.

The General Management Directorate

The General Management Directorate (Algemene Bestuursdienst, ABD) is the central staff organisation responsible for the organisation and support of EUR’s policy and administration at the institutional level. ABD supports the Executive Board in fulfilling its responsibilities with regard to the quality, accessibility and financing of EUR’s education and research programmes. ABD handles the joint design of integrated policy, ensures the timely submission of policy within decision-making procedures and the implementation of the adopted policy measures and constantly monitors and evaluates developments in the interest of further improvement. ABD comprises the departments of Academic Affairs (AZ), Corporate Planning & Control (CPC), Administrative Affairs (BZ), Legal Affairs (JZ) and Strategy Office (SO). The independent university publication Erasmus Magazine also falls under ABD in organisational terms.

The management directorate is headed by the Director of the General Management Directorate, who also serves as Secretary of the Executive Board.

Group

Academic Affairs (AZ) forms part of the General Management Directorate (ABD), the central staff organisation responsible for organising policy support at institutional level. AZ works at policy level to strengthen and innovate teaching, research and impact creation at Erasmus University. Both policy advisory tasks and programmes are carried out in close consultation with faculties and relevant implementing organisations.

Department

The EUR Student Wellbeing Programme, part of Academic Affairs, supports students in their personal development and wellbeing throughout their studies, enabling them to grow in a balanced way.

We encourage students to actively focus on their physical, mental and social wellbeing, so that they can develop both academically and personally. We put this into practice by coordinating a university-wide approach to student wellbeing. Together with faculties, support services and external partners, we develop wellbeing initiatives, strengthen staff expertise and ensure that students have easy access to appropriate support throughout their studies. A Student Wellbeing Officer has been appointed within each faculty. This enables us to link policy, expertise and practice, and ensures that student wellbeing is tailored to the needs of the various faculties.

Together, we develop and support a range of initiatives that contribute to students’ wellbeing and personal development, such as the Living Room, ROOM to grow, and the sport & leadership course. In addition, we are committed to better equipping lecturers and student facing staff to support students and to embed wellbeing and personal development structurally within our teaching and organisation. Monitoring and research provide the academic evidence that helps us gain an understanding of students’ needs, evaluate our work and continuously improve our approach to student wellbeing.
