Maureen Rutten-van Mölken is professor of economic evaluations of innovative health care for chronic diseases at the Institute for Medical Technology Assessment/Institute of Health Care Policy and Management (iMTA/iBMG) of the Erasmus University/Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. She is also vice-director of iMTA. She joined iMTA as a senior researcher in 1996. Before, she was an assistant professor in Health Economics and Medical Technology Assessment at the Department of Health Economics of the University of Maastricht. She was trained as a health scientist and had additional training in health economics and epidemiology. She obtained a MSc in health care policy and management at Maastricht University (1988), and a PhD in health economics, also at Maastricht University (1994).

Maureen's expertise includes economic evaluations alongside clinical trials as well as probabilistic decision analytic modeling, primarily in the area of respiratory diseases, smoking, rheumatology and several other chronic diseases. She has a special interest in cost-effectiveness and financing of integrated care programs. She has over 20 years of experience in health economics and outcomes research and has been project leader of many applied economic evaluations and HTA-methodology studies leading to high level publications. She is a member of the committee “Implementation” of the Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development (ZonMW), and was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Dutch Asthma Foundation until recently.
