There are additional financial supports options that you can apply for on top of your grant, with their own requirements and documents.

Additional financial support for sustainable travel

If you use an environmentally friendly, sustainable means of transport for your journey to and from your host country, you may be entitled to a 'Green travel' top-up payment. Sustainable means for transport are train, bus, bike or carpool.

  • You can receive a one-off contribution of € 50+ additional amount based on the country you’re going to.
  • In your application indicate that you are planning to use a sustainable method of travel. After your exchange you will need to upload proof, such as a train ticket.

Additional financial support for students with diagnosed medical condition and/or DUO supplementary grant

If you receive a supplementary grant from DUO and/or have a diagnosed medical condition that influences and complicates travel and studying abroad, you may be entitled to an 'Inclusion' top-up payment of up to € 250 per month.

  • After the nomination we will inform you how you can apply for this additional support.

Additional financial support for students with a disability and/or special needs

If you have a disability and/or special needs and you are eligible for an Erasmus+ for studies or internships grant, the EUR can apply for additional financial support from the Erasmus+ programme on your behalf.

  • The deadline for application is 3 months before the start date of your exchange.
  • You will need to have demonstrable extra costs due to your special needs (such as buying specific equipment, paying a caretaker or using a special taxi service) that are not covered by your health or travel insurance.
  • The extra costs cannot be covered by the Inclusion top up.

Is studying abroad expensive?

Plan your budget on time

Didn't find a scholarship? Don't worry!

Do you have questions?

In a lot of cases you will receive the scholarship for only one year. Please check the scholarship criteria carefully to avoid unpleasant surprises. Think about ways to finance your 2nd and/or 3rd year in advance.

Most of the requirement apply to:

  1. Study results / being an excellent student;
  2. Being able to demonstrate your ambition;
  3. Level of study;
  4. Obtained diplomas;
  5. Country of origin.

Your chances are slim, meaning that most students won't gain a scholarship. There are hundreds of new students each year, but there is not an equal amount of scholarships available. But you never know, you might just be one of the lucky (chosen) ones. As long as you take into account that you may have to arrange financial aid in a different way, you're fine.

That depends on the scholarship. The scholarship may be a partial tuition fee waiver which means you still need to pay tuition fee. Please check the criteria of your scholarship carefully.

In Holland, higher education is subsidized, which means that tuition fees can be kept relatively low, especially compared with the United Kingdom and the United States. Because of this, we do not have an extensive scholarship programme. This doesn't mean we don't have them at all though, so make sure to have a closer look.

In order to filter out the scholarships you might be able to apply for, take the following steps:

  1. Select on this page your current situation.
    By clicking on one of the situations, the scholarship overview that applies to you will be shown;
  2. All the basic requirements of the scholarship are mentioned in the table of the scholarship overview page. Check for country and region eligibility, study level and faculty specific information;
  3. Click on one of the scholarships for more details;
  4. To apply, follow the given application instructions.

You can find information on scholarships here.

First, select on the Scholarships and grants page if you're a student planning to study at Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) or whether you're already studying at EUR and thinking about going on exchange.

After selecting one of these options, you'll land on a page with a scholarship overview applicable to your situation.
