Education & Student Affairs (O&S) supports the organization, development, and delivery of education at Erasmus MC. Together with academic programs, faculty, and support services, we work to provide high-quality education and an optimal learning environment for students. The department consists of six teams, each of which contributes to quality education and guidance based on its own expertise.
Within the department of Education and Student Affairs there are several teams that help organize and support academic education. The support of the Education and Student Affairs department doesn't only apply to Medicine or the Research Masters, but also for the Nanobiology and Clinical Technology programs. So do not hesitate to submit your request for help or information to them. In practice, however, much of the logistical and educational support for these last two programs comes from the partner university (and lead), TU Delft.
This team supports the processes of educational development, teaching, educational evaluation and information management. Among other things, this team assists teachers and educational support staff in updating study materials, provides support and training in the practical use of educational systems, and optimizes education supporting processes. this team helps teachers and educational support staff update study materials, provide support and training in the practical use of teaching systems, and optimize teaching support processes. They also manage the Teaching Information Portal and this onboarding module. In short, they provide educational logistics support with a focus on teachers and educational support staff.
This team is the first point of contact for the teaching schedule, audiovisual support during teaching activities, and the management of general facilities in the education center.
Audiovisual support not only covers ensuring the basic equipment of a classroom is in order, but you can also contact the AVO support staff or service employees for their assistance regarding malfunctions, breakdowns, outages or for other technical questions.
The service employees are available at the Service Point of the education center at designated times and conduct inspection rounds in the various education buildings.
This team supports coordinators and teachers in developing education across the various educational programs. They assist in translating educational concepts into concrete education for all of our students. Specifically, they are involved in designing and analyzing assessments. In this way, they contribute to the constructive alignment of the education provided.
Additionally, they systematically monitor the quality of various educational activities and are involved in the accreditation of all the educational programs. Based on the analyses, they make recommendations for optimization.
The third task focuses on documenting policy. This includes describing existing procedures, processes, tasks, and responsibilities, as well as proposing new policies for innovative aspects of education or supporting processes.
The student counseling team consists of 5 student advisors. One of the student advisors also works as wellbeing officer on behalf of the faculty. The student advisors inform and advise over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students who are studying at the Erasmus MC faculty of Erasmus University Rotterdam throughout their academic career. They focus on student success by guiding students in areas such as study planning, academic progress, career questions, and when studies are hindered by personal circumstances. Additionally, the study advisor is an important link between the organization and the student. For example, they assess the educational feasibility of the educational programs and can identify bottlenecks in areas like the curriculum. Another important task is advising, among others, the program directors and the Examination Board. They also hold informational meetings and develop informational materials.
The secretariat and management team provides assistance to the program management of the Department of Medicine with secretarial work, including agenda management for the board members. They are also the spider in the web for and on behalf of the entire Department of Education and Student Affairs. The secretariat also manages the agenda of the department manager.
The OASE team (OASE stands for Training of A(N)IOS and Specialists Erasmus MC) provides educational and organizational support to the medical specialization education programs. Their primary tasks are: 1) the professionalization of medical specialists in their supervising and educational roles (for example Teach-the-Teacher and customized training), 2) offering a program for cross-disciplinary training for A(N)IOS and a monthly warm welcome, 3) improving the quality of medical training and participation in trial visits and dialogues about quality, and 4) promoting the well-being and personal development of AIOS.
Teaching Information Portal
The Teaching Information Portal (TiP) is available for everyone working within education. The TiP was created because there was a need to make relevant information available from one central point. For now, the TIP is only there for Medicine education. In time, the TiP will be extended to other programs. Please note that TiP currently is only available in Dutch.
On the TiP you will find contact information, the schedule, links to and explanations of systems, training courses, e-modules for improving your teaching skills, and much more.
Much of the information on the TiP is also relevant and useful for other academic teaching. So it certainly can't hurt to take a look!
