Liliane Ploumen tijdens conferentie 40 jaar Geschiedenis

On the 9th of November, the History department celebrated its 40th anniversary.

This year the History Department at Erasmus University Rotterdam celebrates its fortieth anniversary. In 1978 the minister of Education gave permission to the Erasmus University to found a programme History of Society. The new History programme was successful and considered quite innovative.

The curriculum focused on a social science approach resulting in a multidisciplinary programme that gave students a good academic background and an excellent start in society. Notwithstanding the pressure of financial cuts, this approach is still recognisable in our education and research today. It probably is one of the reasons that students highly value our Bachelor and Master programmes.

Forty years later, the History department wanted to celebrate these accomplishments with the conference on Nationalism and Protectionism: A Global Historical Approach and with the presentation of the book History @ Erasmus. See the flyer for more information on the programme.

Lustrum

This year, we celebrate the 21st lustrum of Erasmus University Rotterdam, with the theme 'Science meets city'. During this year, there is an exciting programme with a lot of encounters between scientists and inhabitants and organisations of Rotterdam.
