MicroLab Summerfestival 2021: Food for Action
The past year has challenged us to rethink our education as never before. We all became pioneers, trying to make our education work and meet the needs of students in an online environment. This change made crystal clear what aspects of education are crucial for the learning success of our students.
We tried, experimented, failed, and succeeded. The result? A lot of food for thought. We invite you to turn this food into action during the MicroLab Summerfestival!
The MicroLab Summerfestival takes place from 5 to 9 July. Join us to:
- utilize what you have experienced and learned during the pandemic;
- plant seeds to make new ideas grow
- yield concrete plans and products for your education
This year’s MicroLab Summerfestival will start with a joint kick-off , the ‘Educational Appetizer’, in which you are invited to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the future. In addition, guest speakers share how they seized opportunities in their educational design.
During the MicroLab Summerfestival, you are invited to join MicroLabs and webinars of your choice related to educational design, delivery, assessment, or guiding the learning process of your students. A wide range of topics is covered! Have a look at the festival programme to see what MicroLabs fit your needs.

Monday 12.00 – 13.30
To kick-start this year’s MicroLab Summer festival we have prepared something special. On Monday the 5th of July, 12:00-13:30 we will broadcast a talk show, live from the Education Lab. Together with our experienced guest speakers Mijke Slot and Sam Riedijk, we will reflect on the past year, discuss innovations, and look forward to the future of education.
You can expect to hear inspirational stories, experiences and tips that provide food for thought for your own teaching. During the talk show you can share experiences or questions for the guest speakers yourself as well. A code for Mentimeter will be provided for all participants to join the discussion.

Who will join us at the table?
Mijke Slot, Assistant Professor Media & Communication
ESHCC’s innovation pioneer Mijke Slot finished redesigning one of her courses into a blended format one day before the first Corona lock-down started. She will join us to share her personal insights about this project and the way her students experienced the course.
Sam Riedijk, Medical psychologist and Assistant Professor
Sam Riedijk is driving innovations at EMC to create impact through education. In the past year she experimented with approaches to connect and engage with her students online but also to connect with society. She will share her experiences with these seemingly different yet connected challenges.

Have you followed some MicroLabs or webinars during the MicroLab Summerfestival and do you feel inspired to transform your new insights into concrete actions for your education? As a wrap-up of the festival, we provide an opportunity to schedule an individual consult with CLI to brainstorm about possibilities for an CLI innovation project. More information will follow.

General guidelines for the MicroLab Summerfestival (Success recipe):
- Mind your calories. Online preparation is required for each MicroLab. We therefore recommend following a maximum of 2 to 3 MicroLabs during the Summer Festival week. On the MicroLab page you will find per MicroLab how much preparation is required. Approximately three weeks before the Summer Festival you will receive an invitation email for the MicroLab (s) for which you have registered, with the exact preparation assignments.
- Enjoy unlimited healthy snacks that require no preparation. For the complete festival experience, take part in the inspiring kick-off and webinars, for example. These activities are also accessible to non-teaching staff.
