On Wednesday 28 April 2021, F.A. Berger will defend her PhD dissertation, entitled: ‘Drug Induced QTC-Prolongation: Towards a better understanding of potential risks’.
At this moment, for over 60 drugs have been shown to cause QTc prolongation, which is a serious risk factor for ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. The risk might increase when such drugs are combined. However, the exact magnitude of the problem is unknown making it difficult for health care professionals to interpret these drug-drug interactions. Therefore, the aim of this PhD project is to provide guidance on safe prescription practices by gaining more insight into the prevalence and associated risk factors of QT prolongation in patients using QTc-prolonging drugs.
Due to corona, the PhD defences do not take place publicly in the usual way in the Senate Hall or in the Professor Andries Querido Room. The candidates will defend their dissertation either in a small group or online.
