On Tuesday 21 January 2020, L.J.D. van Dijk will defend her PhD dissertation, entitled: ‘Chronic Mesenteric Ischemia in the Picture. New diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities’.
This thesis aims to provide insights in different aspects of the diagnosis and therapy of chronic mesenteric ischemia (CMI) to optimize the diagnostic work-up an therapy for this specific patient group. The disease CMI is introduced in Part I with an overview of the definition, epidemiology, etiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic work-up, therapy and clinical outcome of CMI and the anatomy of the mesenteric vasculature in Chapter 1.1 followed by the aims and outline of the thesis in Chapter 1.2. Part II discusses different aspects of the current diagnostic work-up for CMI and strategies and insights to optimize the diagnostic work-up. Part III discusses various therapeutic elements of CMI with focus on endovascular revascularization. In Part IV we summarize the main findings of this thesis in Chapter 12.1 and provide an overall discussion in Chapter 12.2. Furthermore, directions for future research are provided in Chapter 12.3 and the last part of the thesis ends with the overall conclusion.
The public defence will take place at the Prof. Andries Queridoroom, 3rd floor Education Center, Erasmus MC. The ceremony will begin exactly at 13.30 hrs. In light of the solemn nature of the ceremony, we recommend that you do not take children under the age of 6 to the first part of the ceremony.
