PhD defence M. (Maria) van Braak

This thesis originates in educational practice. It is situated in the Dutch training for General Practitioners (GPs), particularly in a form of education that is a key part of that training: Learning from Experiences. During Learning from Experiences, GPs in training and teachers collaboratively construct educational value from discussing experiences from clinical and training practice. In a series of interview and interaction analytic studies, this thesis describes a variety of practices for doing so, as well as the normative orientations that drive those practices. As a description of educaitonal practice, the research results contribute to teacher training. Conceptually, the research contributes to educational theory in the context of postgraduate medical training.
