Below is a brief summary of the dissertation:
This thesis shows different aspects of the complex clinical course in children with syndromic craniosynostosis. We examine the cerebral blood flow in children with syndromic craniosynostosis and how it is different to that of normal children. Next we look at the clinical course of obstructive sleep apnea, neurological deficits, and brain abnormalities. We end this thesis with a scoping review, which showed that there has been much research about increased brain pressure in children with syndromic craniosynostosis. However, there is little uniformity, which makes the comparison of results from different research groups difficult or impossible. Further research and a consensus between research groups is necessary. This could make it possible to achieve new and valuable insights to longstanding questions such as what is optimal timing for surgical intervention, and which problems in syndromic craniosynostosis are caused by the genetic defects, and which are the result of increased brain pressure?
