On 27 October 2021, S.D. Hiltemann will defend her PhD dissertation, entitled: ‘Jigsaw Genomics: Assembling the pieces toward open and accessible bioinformatics for everyone’.
Biomedical research has been flung head-first into the "Big Data" era by rapid advances in sequencing technology. In order to analyze these large amounts of data that are being generated, specialist knowledge and programming skills are often required, leaving many researchers dependent on specialist bioinformaticians to analyse their data. In order to empower researchers to perform their own analysis again, we create a framework of tools and resources, supported by comprehensive training, to make data analysis usable and accessible to domain scientist, without requiring technical or programming skills.
The public defence will take place at the Prof. Andries Queridoroom, 3rd floor Education Center, Erasmus MC. The ceremony will begin exactly at 10.30 AM. In light of the solemn nature of the ceremony, we recommend that you do not take children under the age of 6 to the first part of the ceremony.
