The intricate drawings by Carlijn Kingma map out the (unseen) structures that shape our society, giving the opportunity to critically look at our financial systems. Who are the main players? How do they run the system? And what are the levers that could potentially change it all for the better? Join us for a guided visit through the exhibition Fear of Falling and learn all about why the system works, just not for you.

The visit to Kingma’s exhibition will be preceded by a lecture by prof. dr. Dirk Schoenmaker who will provide us with an economic framework: What do we actually see on these drawings and (why) do we need to critically review the way our markets work, as Kingma invites us to?
During The system works, just not for you we will gain insight into how financial rules, incentives and power structures translate into everyday realities such as rising house prices, growing debt and social inequality. An event at the intersection of art and science.
Good to know: wear something warm, the industrial art space is not heated.

BRUTUS is an artist-driven contemporary art space in a former harbor complex in M4H Rotterdam, offering 6,000 m² of raw industrial space for experimentation and large-scale exhibitions. With its motto “everyone is an insider,” Brutus brings artists and audiences together through accessible, unconventional and immersive art experiences, alongside residencies, a sculpture garden and the Brutus Prize.
The title of this program is loosely based on the name of a book (Geld genoeg, maar niet voor jou) by Follow the Money-researcher Thomas Bollen, who works together with Carlijn Kingma on the research for the art works.
