Who was Miles Davis really — and why does his influence still resonate through jazz, hip-hop and pop music today?
Before the concert Miles 100 – A Tribute to Miles Davis, trumpeter Michael Varekamp and pianist Wiboud Burkens take you on a journey through the life, music and mindset of one of the most innovative artists of all time. Through music clips, film footage and stories, you’ll discover how Miles Davis shaped the direction of music for decades.
From Kind of Blue to We Want Miles, from John Coltrane to Prince: Miles was a magnet for talent and a driving force behind constant reinvention. But he was also controversial, uncompromising and outspoken — an artist far ahead of his time who fiercely addressed issues of civil rights and identity.
This inspiring lecture reveals how Miles continuously reinvented himself and why his legacy remains deeply relevant today. Not a dry history lesson, but an energetic deep dive into creativity, rebellion and innovation. The perfect way to tune your ears before the concert.
