Last week, the university that can call itself the most sustainable was announced for the 10th time. Students from all over the country tested the higher education institutions (32 this year) on the integration of sustainability in education, research and management. Last year EUR ranked 15th, this year EUR holds a nice 8th place in this great initiative by and for students.

Joint responsibility

The organiser, Students for Tomorrow, believes that higher education has a social responsibility to contribute to a sustainable society by incorporating sustainability in vision and policy. Sharing knowledge is important in this respect. Learning from each other and inspiring each other with best practices raises sustainability to a higher level. Higher education cannot be left behind in the pursuit of a sustainable society.

Sustainability at the EUR

All levels of the university are working hard on sustainable development. Sustainability is fundamental to current and future students and staff and plays a major role in the education curriculum. The Erasmus University strives for a sustainable education portfolio. Within the EUR, much scientific research on sustainability and energy transition takes place. And, of course, business operations cannot be left behind, with the expectation of a CO2-neutral business by 2024.

Many initiatives are coordinated by the Erasmus Sustainability Hub such as the campus garden of Edible EUR, the Erasmus Foodlab where academic and field research on marketing of healthy and sustainable food is conducted and Rethink Apparel on environmental & social sustainability in the fashion industry.
