Leiden-Delft-Erasmus universities open up professional training for each others lecturers

Lecturers at Leiden University, TU Delft and Erasmus University Rotterdam can take courses on offer at the other two universities. This is really interesting when it comes to courses that are complimentary to those at your home university. It is a perfect opportunity to broaden your perspective and to learn from lecturers at different universities.

This pilot is a way for the LDE universities to create awareness of these options and to see which of the courses would be most in demand.

Marja Verstelle, Project Manager for Teaching at Leiden-Delft-Erasmus, tells us more about the pilot: ‘The collaboration between our three top universities, the alliance called the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities, offers enormous added value. LDE researchers have been working together in interdisciplinary fashion for ten years now and their students have attended classes together too. The fact that lecturers can also take courses offered by their partners is less well-known.‘

Each of the universities has particular specialisms in the range of courses they offer. Our campaign is meant to give this issue more visibility, and to make the registration process as simple as possible, so that lecturers can take advantage of the LDE collaboration too. And we're highlighting a number of really inspiring courses.’

Strengthening each other's range of courses

Remy Fermont, educational advisor at Risbo in Rotterdam, adds to what Verstelle said: ‘We often see how lecturers enjoy learning with and from one another and that there is even greater added value when this learning crosses faculty boundaries. Isn't it great then to be able to cross university boundaries while learning with and from other lecturers!’

“We purposefully identified the aspects in each university's range of courses that complements that of the others. This will allow lecturers to learn about things that they currently couldn't learn at their own university.’
