dr. (Carlota) MC Ucín, LL.M

Biography

I am a postdoctoral researcher working at Erasmus School of Law as a member of the Vici Project: Affordable access to justice: towards the sustainable cost and funding mechanisms for civil litigation in Europe, directed by Professor Dr. Xandra Kramer and financed by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

In my research, I develop the concept of access to justice as a human right and from this perspective, I explore the shift in the role of the state in the field of justice and the emergence of several forms of participatory funding of litigation observing, in particular, the climate change phenomenon.

For many years now, I have been studying the public interest litigation practice from a procedural and argumentative perspective. In my recently published book: 'Juicio a la desigualdad. La defensa de los derechos sociales a través del proceso' (Inequality on trial. The defence of social rights through the judicial process, Marcial Pons, Madrid, 2021) I suggest different procedural alternatives to conduct social transformation through public engagement and participation through the civil procedure.
