Do you want to stay connected to EUR in a unique way and help an EUR student at the same time? Then open your home to host a student for a while!
Due to the current housing crisis, Hospi Housing, the municipality of Rotterdam and Erasmus University Rotterdam started a collaboration in 2024 to promote the concept of homestays in our region. Multiple students have found a place to stay via Hospi Housing during the pilot phase, but, of course, we are welcoming more students next academic year. Perhaps you have a room available and are open to sharing your home with an international student. And at the same time enhancing your connection with EUR and supplementing your income. It truly is a win-win situation.
A fun experience
One of our students who found a room via Hospi Housing was Darja from Latvia who lives with her host Natasha on the Bergweg in Rotterdam. After Natasha’s children moved out, her home felt a bit empty. Therefore, she gave it a try to host a foreign student. The first student Natasha hosted was a girl from Italy, which she loved since it gave her an opportunity to practice her Italian. After her exchange that lasted that a couple of months, the girl went home to Italy, and Natasha decided to continue to be a host. A match was found with Darja with whom she shares her native language!
Read more in this interview and learn how Natasha and Darja both experienced their homestay.

In Rotterdam and many surrounding cities renting out a room in your home on a temporary basis is allowed under certain conditions and possible for periods as short as two months.
Renting out a room via the Hospi Housing platform is easy. The platform’s staff is there to support you and has all the knowledge and expertise to successfully guide you in every step of the process. For hosts the service is free, however students pay a one-time fee.
More information on becoming a host can be found on Hospitaverhuur | rotterdam.nl and Rent out a room | Hospi Housing platform for homestay & homesharing.
Benefits for the host
Hosting not only helps a student, but for you (and your family) this experience can also be fun and meaningful! You meet new people – often from a different cultural background - and you can earn a nice extra income up to € 5,998 tax free per year. Whatever the reason, by temporarily renting out a room you help a student in need and will have a unique connection to your alma mater and perhaps forge a friendship for life.
Hosting in other cities
We have noticed that EUR students are also very open to stay in neighbouring cities, such as Capelle aan den IJssel, Schiedam, Vlaardingen, Spijkenisse, Barendrecht but even as far away as Delft, Gouda or the Hague. Convenient connections with public transportation make this an option for them and they get the bonus of also getting to know a different city.
Hospi Housing is not active in our region, but also in student cities across the Netherlands. So even if you live in Eindhoven, Utrecht or Groningen, you are eligible to become a host.

Each year hundreds of our students struggle to find a room. And that’s why we need you! Are you interested in hosting a student or do you know someone with a spare room who might be? Then check out www.hospihousing.com.
