The pre-master programme combines lectures, seminars and intensive research supervision. During the first two semesters, you will attend lectures in which you will become familiar with the broader historical contexts, theories and debates relating to the course material. In smaller seminars, you will actively discuss the literature and historical themes with both lecturers and fellow students. In preparation for these sessions, you will study academic texts and work with primary historical sources, learning how to critically analyse and interpret material from the past.
In the second half of the academic year, you will work in small groups of students on your bachelor’s dissertation. Under the close supervision of academic staff, you will learn how to conduct independent historical research into a specific topic that aligns with the lecturers’ areas of expertise. In this way, you will gain practical experience in formulating research questions, analysing sources and writing an academic research report.
