After an explanation, students think of what the most important terms from your story were and write them on a blank bingo card. You give a recap at the end of the lecture in which you discuss the most important parts. Which of the students has the first bingo?

Bingo card, pen.

Step 1

To prepare for this activity, write a short story with the main points from your lecture or presentation.

Step 2

Distribute a blank bingo card to each student. (optional)

Step 3

Students fill in 6-9 words on the card that they think recur in your recap.

Step 4

Read your story to the students. When they hear a word on their bingo card, they cross it out. The one who is the first to cross out all the words has bingo.

Step 5

At the end, discuss why these words were most important and also give students space to let them tell why they chose other words.

Offline

Pen and paper or bingo card.

Online

Distribute the bingo card via chat or on Canvas. 

Step 1

Step 2

Let students open a new text document or let them grab pen and paper. 

Step 3

Let students note down six or nine words that they think recur in your recap.

Step 4

Read your story to the students in the plenary meeting. When they hear a word on their bingo card, they cross it out. The one who is the first to cross out all the words has bingo. You can let student use the ‘thumbs up” or “raise hand” function to indicate they have bingo.

Step 5

At the end, discuss why these words were most important and also give students space to let them tell why they chose other words.

This activity can be conducted online via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
