Generating feedback with AI involves using an AI tool, such as a large language model, to produce feedback based on specific criteria or instructions on your product. This way, AI can be an additional source of input, alongside self-assessment, teacher feedback, or peer feedback.
Generating feedback with AI contributes to feedback literacy by encouraging students to think critically about what good feedback looks like and how it can be interpreted and used for improvement. Students also practise evaluating the quality of feedback itself, comparing it with their own expectations and translating it into concrete actions for their work.
This approach is supported through two activities. In the activity co-creation, students collaboratively define what they consider important criteria that they want to see reflected in their assignment. This acts as a mini-calibration exercise, helping them develop a shared understanding of quality. In the activity AI as a sparring partner, students focus on how to formulate effective prompts, to guide the AI tool to generate useful and relevant feedback.
