Challenged books available at the Erasmus University Library

Every year, the American Library Association (ALA) publishes a list of the most challenged books. The ALA collects data on books that have been challenged in libraries and schools. The reasons vary, but in recent years have often concerned topics such as anti-racism and LGBTQIA+ themes.

The EUR Library acquires these books each year to ensure that they remain accessible to students and researchers. With Banned Books Week coming up, the library is once again highlighting these books and the importance of the freedom to read, explore and discuss different ideas.

This year, Banned Books Week takes place from October 4–10 and has the theme “Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read.”

Discover which books are included in this year’s list in our online exhibition.
