Engaged education

Putting knowledge to work
Students in the city.

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is committed to impact-driven and engaged education, in which academic knowledge is put to practical use to address complex challenges such as the energy transition, digitalisation and sustainable development. Central to this are collaboration with societal partners and an interdisciplinary approach.

Engaged and impact-driven education embedded in our vision

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR)'s education vision is focused on creating a positive impact on society, in close collaboration with various partners in society. The university equips students to become "Erasmians": global citizens combining academic expertise with a critical mindset and societal engagement.

Teaming up for engaged education

All faculties are committed to integrating stakeholders from the wider community into academic education. They are supported in this at central level by, amongst others, the Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) and the Engagement and Research Services (ERS).

Erasmus Verbindt

Erasmus Verbindt facilitates socially oriented education by linking regional issues and partners to the educational programmes at the EUR. The team also contributes to neighbourhood-based and thematic networks.

More about Erasmus Verbindt

Community cooperation

In collaboration with the City of Rotterdam, EUR has launched various initiatives such as HefHouse, Cultuur&Campus (only in Dutch), Vital Cities and Citizens (VCC) and the Diamond projects to bring education and society closer together in Rotterdam's neighbourhoods.

Collaboration with other educational institutions

Major societal challenges also call for the pooling of academic resources, as seen in Convergence and the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities (LDE) alliance. The EUR also collaborates closely with Albeda, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and other schools for higher professional education and vocational education. Through initiatives such as Meet the Professor (only in Dutch) the EUR also maintains links with primary schools.

Lifelong Learning

EUR also aims to make an impact by acting as a knowledge partner for professionals at the heart of society. Through our executive education programmes, we train professionals to lead transitions, for example in the fields of sustainable energy and healthcare innovation. By doing so, the EUR also contributes to improving the employability of professionals. To view our full range of executive education programmes, visit eur.nl/en/continuing-education.
