With the Erasmus Initiative ‘Vital Cities and Citizens’, Erasmus University wants to help improve the quality of life in cities. In vital cities, the population can achieve their life goals through education, useful work and participation in public life. The vital city is a platform for creativity and diversity, a safe meeting place for different social groups. In this initiative Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB), International Insititute of Social Studies (ISS) and Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) work together.
Morning Session:
09:45 – 10:00 Arrival and registration
10:00 - 10:15 Opening speeches by
Prof. dr. Victor Bekkers (ESSB Dean)
Prof. dr. Inge Hutter (ISS Dean)
Prof. dr. van den Boom (ESHCC Dean)
10:15 – 10:30 Prof. van Zoonen on LDE and BOLD Cities
10:30– 12:15 Speed dating event (~ 5 min speed dates)
12:15 – 13:00 Parallel session on two topics:
- How to engage with cities and citizens and with other external stakeholders
- What the programme needs to be truly interdisciplinary
(Three discussion groups with one Dean and at least one scientific coordinator each)
13:00 – 14:00 Lunch break (buffet)
Afternoon Session:
14:00 – 15:00 Open debate - parallel session outcome
15:00 – 15:20 Graduate School – activities for PhD and postdocs (dr. Fadi Hirzalla)
15:20– 15:30 Communication office (Mrs. Sonja Nollen-Smith, EUR Communication Office)
15:30 – 16:00 Further activities – Debate on which kind of activities have to be organized
