The Pope has appointed Christoph Engel as a Member of the Pontifical Academy of the Social Sciences.
The aim of the Academy is to promote the study and the progress of the social sciences, in the interest of offering the Church the elements which she can use in the development of her social doctrine, and to reflect on the application of that doctrine in contemporary society.
