Successful PILAR Conference at Erasmus School of Law

Nieuws

Between 11 and 13 April, the ‘Erasmus Early-Career Scholars Conference 2018’ took place at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Young researchers from all over the world came to Rotterdam to participate in an innovative and interdisciplinary discussion forum and to open a new dialogue among junior scholars from different disciplines.

The conference was organized by the PhD in Law Association Rotterdam (PILAR), together with different faculties, one of them being Erasmus School of Law. The theme of this year’s conference was “New business models and globalized markets: Rethinking public and private responsibilities”. The theme referred to the legal, economic and societal responses to challenges that are arising because of globalization and fast-changing technologies.

The conference was part of the Erasmus Initiative ‘Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity’, of which Erasmus School of Law is a leading participant. ‘Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity’ focuses on enabling as many people as possible to benefit from increasing prosperity, whilst minimising the negative consequences. Furthermore, the conference benefitted from the Erasmus Trustfonds sponsorship.

Next to the keynote lectures from prof. Jonathan Klick, Miriam Kennet and Katharina Pistor, several participants presented their current research after having undergone a rigorous and competitive selection procedure. A poster presentation was also part of the event.  Vice Dean Prof. dr. Fabian Amtenbrink closed the conference on Friday, after announcing the scholars who had made the best presentation and the best poster.
