Successful Workshop “Building the Brand ‘You’: How to Get Your PhD Published?”

Nieuws

On 11 April, Erasmus School of Law hosted the event “Building the Brand ‘You”: How to get your PhD Published?”, where several world-renowned publishing houses, including Cambridge University Press, Edward Elgar, Routledge, Boom, Eleven International Publishing, and Wolters Kluwer, were united to demystify the publication procedure of a PhD monograph.

The event was organized in two Roundtables. The first one was chaired by Prof. Maarten Verbrugh (Corporate Law) and was about the formalities of finding an adequate publisher (from how to contact, to timeframe). This first Roundtable counted with the participation of Dr Julia Lessa (Commercial Law) and Dr Erlis Themeli (Private Law) who shared their own experiences when publishing their thesis. The second Roundtable was guided by Prof. René van Swaaningen (Criminology) and Prof. Klaus Heine (Law and Economics) and provided the audience with an informative discussion regarding the tradeoff of academic quality versus commercial requirements of publishing houses.

The workshop had a high attendance with more than 30 PhDs from various departments of Erasmus School of Law. This event not only benefited young scholars but also deemed as a valuable platform for the publishers to know more about the needs of PhDs and the diverse publication policies of other publishing houses.

This event was organized by the PhDs candidates Maria Fernanda Madi, Du Du, Eleonora di Molfetta and Michelle de Vries, who are the winners of EGSL Call for Ideas in 2018.
