Constanze Binder is a assistant professor in theoretical philosophy at Erasmus School of Philosophy. She studied Economics and Environmental System Science at Graz University and obtained a Phd in Philosophy at the University of Groningen (2011), supervised by Martin van Hees.

Before coming to Rotterdam, Constanze taught at the Philosophy Departments of Groningen and Leiden University, worked at the Economics Department of the University of Osnabrück and contributed to projects on climate change for the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Environment and the Austrian Human Dimensions Program.

Constanze's main research interest concerns the analysis and normative assessment of societal systems, in particular markets. She is particularly interested in the relationship between markets, (distributional) justice and quality of life assessments. In her work Constanze combines formal- and non-formal tools from individual- and social-choice theory and political philosophy. Among others she is currently working on social choice approaches to justice (with Ingrid Robeyns on the NWO-funded project `The Transition from Ideal to Non-ideal Theories of Justice').
