Christian Handke is Assistant Professor (tenured) of Cultural Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. From 2012 to 2018, he was program director of the Master in Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship. Since 2012, Dr. Handke has also worked as Senior Researcher at University of Amsterdam, where he participated in the research project on Copyright in an Age of Access. He is currently also working for visitBerlin, a private public partnership with participation of the Berlin Senate, on market research for the cultural sector.

Christian Handke is Assistant Professor (tenured) of Cultural Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Dr. Handke's research focuses on cultural economics and the economics of copyright, innovation and technological change, cultural and creative industries, as well as text and data mining.
In 2010, Christian Handke received his doctorate in economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam with highest distinction. His dissertation was short-listed for the Boekman Dissertation Prize 2012. He also holds an M.A. with distinction in 'Science, Technology and Society' from Linköping University (Sweden) and a B.A. (Hons) in European Studies from the University of North London. Between 2003 and 2007, Christian was junior lecturer/researcher at Humboldt University Berlin, Centre for British Studies, where he participated in the research project on Commerce and Culture.
Dr. Handke has consulted for a variety of public and private organizations, including the European Commission, the National Academies of the Sciences (USA), Industry Canada, the UK Intellectual Property Office, the federal German Expert Commission on Research and Innovation (EFI), the ferderal German Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection and the Spanish Fundacion Autor. He also has work experience in cultural event management, for instance for the EXPO 2000 world exhibition in Hannover, and as music producer.
Dr. Handke is currently President of the Society for Economic Research on Copyright Issues (SERCI) and Executive Board member of the Association of Cultural Economics International (ACEI).
