Dr.Shyamika Jayasundara-Smits is a post-doctoral researcher at ÂÂ at the Department of Sociology of the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam.
She holds a PhD in Development Studies from International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands, MA in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding from Eastern Mennonite University, Virginia, USA and BA (Hons.)in International Relations from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. She is a former Fulbright Fellow. She is interested in exploring issues on global governance with an emphasis on peace and violent conflicts. She is a specialist on South Asia and have mainly conducted field work in Sri Lanka.
Her current research projects focus on European Union Foreign and Security Policy, Security Sector Reform (SSR), Civil-Military Relations in external interventions, Nexus of War Economies and Post War Transition and Diasporas' Engagement in Post-war Reconciliation and Economic Development. Dr. Jayasundara-Smits also has an extensive background as a consultant with various International Organizations, Civil Society Organizations and Community Based Organizations on Conflict, Post-Conflict and Peacebuilding related issues.
