Friso van Houdt is Senior Lecturer in the Humanities at Erasmus University College (EUC) Rotterdam.

Friso was trained as a criminologist, sociologist and social philosopher. His research and teaching are informed by an understanding of social philosophy as a 'martial art': a way of defending yourself and others against the discursive and non-discursive structures of violence without having the right for unfair attacks.

This approach comprises a critical reflection upon common sense, a critique of power-knowledge-subjectification and a sense of responsibility for the world we are living in while submitting yourself to the rules of responsible speech.
