dr. JJ (Jochem) Kroezen

Biography

Jochem Kroezen is an Associate Professor in the Department of People & Organisations of Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University and Academic Director of the International Full-Time MBA at RSM.

In his current research, he explores how work can be approached and organized as craft in the era of artificial intelligence. He has written an introductory overview of research on craft in organization and management studies for the Oxford Research Encyclopedia and is currently co-editing the Bristol Handbook of Craft, Technology and Work.

His work on craft, history and other issues in management and organization has appeared in Administrative Science QuarterlyAcademy of Management AnnalsAcademy of Management JournalJournal of Management Studies and Business History. He has co-edited special issues on craft for Organization Studies and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. His research has also been covered in popular media, including The Conversation, The Economist, de Volkskrant, and Trouw.

Jochem is a coordinator and convenor for the EGOS Standing Working Group on Craft and Emerging Forms of Organizing. He is also the co-founder of The International Craft Studio, a multi-disciplinary network with monthly online events for those interested in using craft in research and education.

Jochem is an experienced teacher having taught across different MBA, open and custom programmes. In his classes, he challenges managers and leaders to reflect on their practices as craft in the context of societal transitions around sustainability and artificial intelligence. He teaches classes on culture, trust, change leadership, strategic transformation, the future of work, international business and research methods. At RSM Erasmus, he co-teaches the Craft of Managing for Positive Change in the Full-Time MBA and the open programme Beyond HR.

At Erasmus University, Jochem served as an academic expert in the working group on Culture and Leadership for the EUR 2030 Strategy, led the design of a university wide online short course on the Climate & Ecological Emergency and regularly contributes to internal leadership development programmes and networking events.

Jochem holds a PhD in Management from RSM Erasmus and previously worked as an Assistant Professor at the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. At Cambridge, he designed the Chief Human Resources Officer Programme.

Jochem has won multiple awards for his work, including the Positive Change Award @ RSM Erasmus (2025), the ExecEd Teaching Award @ Cambridge Judge Business School (2021) and the OMT Best International Paper Award @ Academy of Management (2019). He was also nominated for the Academy of Management Annals Best Paper Award (2021).
