Profile
Stefano Tasselli is an Associate Professor at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. He is the Academic Director of the Master in Innovation Management, which is ranked by the prominent learning platform "Innovation Management.se" as the first in the world on the subject. He is also the Director of the Erasmus Centre for Innovation (ECI). He is a Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Exeter Business School. He holds a PhD from the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge. His educational background also includes a Diploma with full grades and honorable mention in Classics, a bachelor degree cum laude in Economics and Management and a Master of Science cum laude in Management from Bocconi University, and a Master of Philosophy with distinction in Innovation, Strategy and Organisation from the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He has specialized his education with an executive program at the Harvard Business School. His previous professional experience includes consulting in McKinsey and Company. His previous academic experience includes research and teaching activities at the University of Cambridge, Bocconi University and the Swiss National Found/ Universita' della Svizzera italiana. He is a member and coordinates activities for the Scientific Committee of the Italian General Embassy in the Netherlands. Among the empirical settings of particular interest for his research, the health care industry, sectors of public interest, and incubators/ accelerators for new entrepreneurial opportunities.
His research and teaching focus is on the interplay between psychological and relational antecedents of organizational functioning, including the analysis of the micro-foundations of organizational social networks; social networks, leadership and innovation; and organizational theory. He has developed classes on 'Social Networks and Leadership' in the full-time MBA. He is currently coordinating and teaching post-graduate, doctoral and executive course and modules on ‘Social Networks for Innovation’ and on the 'Organization of Innovation.’ He has taught the 'New Business Development' post-graduate module in collaboration with the Erasmus Center for Entrepreneurship and several of the most prominent Dutch companies, including ING, KLM, Philips and Eneco. He has taught a module in the successful RSM MOOC on Innovation Management in Coursera.
Dr Tasselli has been invited for more than fifty research seminars and presentations, and has received distinguished recognitions from academic conferences and research institutions. These recognitions include the Best Paper Award at the HCM division of the Academy of Management Annual Meeting (2013, in Orlando, FL), the Outstanding PhD Award from the Judge Business School (2011), the Best Paper Award at the CORE doctoral Conference in Cambridge (2013), two consecutive Best Paper Awards at the conference of the Italian Association for Management in health care (AIES, 2013 in Trento and 2014 in Venice), the Innovative Teaching Award at RSM (2016), the EUR Education Prize (2020), the ABCD Award of the OMT division of the Academy of Management (2017, in Atlanta, GA), the nomination for the Carolyn Dexter Award of the Academy of Management (2019) and the victory of the Global Best Paper Award at the HCM division of the Academy of Management Annual Meeting (2019, in Boston, MA). He has received the honor of Life Membership from both Wolfson College and Girton College of the University of Cambridge. In 2017, he was selected by Wolfson College as the Alumnus of the month. In 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, he has been recognized as a high performing member of the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM). In 2019, he has been awarded with the ERIM 'Best Researcher Award' among those who have completed their PhD less than five years ago. In 2018, he has been awarded by Poets and Quants as one of the '40 World's Best Business Professors under 40.' In 2018, he was also awarded by ASFOR (Italian Society for Management Education) as the 'Best Italian Business Professor under 40.' In 2020, he was appointed by H.E. the President of Italy 'Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia' (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy) for his 'human and professional qualities that contributed to the prestige of the Italian scientific community' in the world.
His research has been published, among the other journals, in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Annals, Organization Science, Annual Review of Psychology, Journal of Management, Organization Studies, Social Networks and Research in the Sociology of Organizations. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Academy of Management Journal. Dr Tasselli also wrote and talked of his research in venues of interest for business practitioners, including the Harvard Business Review, Forbes, LSE Business Review, Academy of Management Insights, RSM Discovery, and Ideas for Leaders. His research activity has also been covered extensively by press and media, including interviews in Business News Radio, Corriere della Sera, Il Sole 24 Ore and La Stampa. In 2020, he has been featured in an interview by Medium Authority Magazine. He has been recently presented by RSM News as "one of the world's best business professors".
